Social Media Contest

The Academy hosted a social media contest for all SAA Chapters. We asked students to use their social media knowledge to create a two-week promotional campaign to promote audiology using Facebook and Twitter. They were required to have two posts per day, using hash tags #NAAAM, #NPYHM, and #audiology. To view the campaigns and support other audiology-related social media Web sites use the links below.

Audiology Advocate for the Auburn University Marching Band
For the second year, Martha W. Wilson, AuD, CCC-A, clinical professor of audiology, Auburn University, Department of Communication Disorders, has become the audiology advocate for the Auburn University Marching Band (AUMB) through the Etymotic Research Adopt-a-Band program. This program was developed to promote education, awareness, and protection of hearing of young musicians. Dr. Wilson was awarded an internal Auburn University grant for the purchase of 350 ETY●Plugs® musician earplugs. The musician earplugs were dispensed at no charge to new members and returning members of the AUMB during pre-season band camps in August 2013.

Audiology Faculty Measures Dangerous Sound Levels at AG Roundup, October 12, 2013
“Aubrey” the mannequin torso, with a built in sound level meter, was introduced to the attendees at the Auburn University College of Agriculture AG Roundup, by Dr. Marsha Kluesing, AuD, assistant clinical professor of audiology, in the Department of Communication Disorders. Inspired by the Dangerous Decibels program, whose mission is to prevent noise induced hearing loss, Dr. Kluesing built the mannequin sound level system to measure loudness levels of personal earphones. Jessica Jackson and Lindsay Bush, doctor of audiology graduate students, assisted with inserting the ear buds into “Aubrey’s” ears and measuring the intensity of the level of sound.
